2012 Performance, Oak Cliff Inaugural Latino Arts Festival, November 2012, Bishop Arts District, Dallas, Texas

In curandera/mama/madre/zumba/frida, Medina performs a variety of actions and movements incorporating props and costume to evoke stereotypes, realities and self reflection.

Women have long played the roles of the healer, whether it be physical or emotional. As the curandera, Medina found that most interaction with the audience occurred with other women seeking help to rid themselves of unwanted emotional baggage. Without offering any services, the participants would come up to the artist and ask to be bathed in the smoke of the incense while the artist acted out actions similar to a healing ceremony.
